Outstanding Student in Public Health Nomination Form

  • The WPHA Memorial Student Scholarship for Outstanding Student in Public Health (formerly known as the Raella Gustafson Award) was established by the Wyoming Public Health Association in 2005 to honor those individuals who are pursuing higher education and who have distinguished themselves through their leadership, commitment, and contributions to the field of public health.

    Raella Gustafson spent a career in public health service. Raella was employed by Fremont County Public Health for 13 years and served as the County Nurse Manager. Raella was a lifelong supporter and advocate for public health and always encouraged people to pursue careers and higher education in the field of public health. Raella lost a long battle with cancer on August 5, 2005 at the age of 51.

    AWARD CRITERIA:
    Nominee need not be a member of the Wyoming Public Health Association. Nominee must have distinguished him/herself by making a significant contribution to public health in Wyoming in at least one of the following ways:
    • Demonstrated significant leadership and/or mentoring skills;
    • Contributed to the promotion and protection of the public’s health by conducting innovative research, developing innovative approaches to address public health problems, or providing unique or innovative services in the field of public health during his/her course of study;
    • Demonstrated the ability to transfer theoretical ideas and knowledge to practical applications in a community setting;
    • Exhibited an exceptional understanding and utilization of the principles of public health in his/her professional activities.
